How to Save a Tour in Google Earth

This is a great project to do with kids.

  • Find the images you want to use to create your tour. Place all images in one folder that is easy to find. Label images in order of the placemarks your intend to create. For example: Namibia1.jpg, Namibia2.jpg, etc.
  • Write the text copy for each stop on your tour. You can use Word or Text edit and save.
  • Open Google Earth.
  • Right click or control click (MAC) on My Places in the sidebar.

  • Click on Add > Folder. Name the folder an appropriate name for your tour.
  • Move Google Earth to the location on the map where you would like to begin your tour. Control Click on the folder previously created, click add >placemark.
  • Using instructions found in this website, create your placemarks.
  • When all placemarks are created within the folder, single click on the folder and then using the menus, click File> Save... Save place as...

  • Be sure to select the KMZ format .

Share your KMZ file by email or transfering files to server or disk-on-key or flash drive.
