Each school has a designated platform, either Windows OS or Mac OS. The servers located in your building will be of the same platform as the majority of the computers in the building.
There are three main types of servers in each building, curriculum servers, web servers and library servers. Some schools due to special circumstances may have one or more other servers beyond these three.
Windows servers: Most schools in the district with Windows servers have Windows NT servers. In some schools, Windows domains are used to log computers onto the network and control permissions.
Mac Servers; The majority of schools using Mac servers are using OS 9 servers. Schools which qualify for federal erate funding have a new OS X server. Mac OS 9 servers will be using Appleshare 6.3. You would have to purchase a license for OS X server for your OS 9 server if you want to upgrade.
