Technology Coaches

There are volunteers in each building in Knox County Schools who make the use of computers and other technology possible. BLTC's or Building Level Technology Coaches have long been a strong resource in Knox County Schools. These dedicated teachers, administrators and staff members are the lifeline of the Instructional Technology Department.

A worksheet was provided for each principal at the beginning of the school year allowing for each school to list the members of their BLTC team. The following links provide the information gathered in this survey.

The typical BLTC has the same duties and responsibilities as others in similar positions and then adds on the task of keeping the computers and networks in their building working. BLTCs help to maintain communication between the Instructional Technology Department and the classroom teachers. The BLTC will know who to contact and what to do when equipment fails or if there are network problems. Many schools rely upon the BLTC to provide technology training for the staff.The Building Level Technology Coaches are among the hardest working people in the school system.

The Intec program model provides specific roles for the BLTC. The role of the Primary BLTCin this model is coordination of the Technology Team for the school. They are the main technology liaison for the school and the first point of contact for the Instructional Technology Department. The responsibilities of any BLTC includes sharing information received at BLTC Meetings with the principal and others at the school.

The training provided by the Instructional Technology Department for Building Level Technology Coaches will focus on:

• Learning and Leading with Technology

• Resources for building coaches

• Skill enhancement training

The Building Level Technology Coach should strive to open the lines of communication between the Instructional Technology Department and other members of the Technology Team. The training provided will primarily be skills based.
