About The KCS Web Site Project
Knox County School Public Affairs Office has initiated a web development program for all Knox County School sites. The Public Affairs Office has purchased one copy (license) of Contribute 3 by Macromedia for each school site. The school may purchase additional copies.
Schools will create a web team to build and maintain a web site containing current information from each school. The responsibility for the website will be placed on the principal unless designated to an employee of the school. The principal will decide if all content must be submitted for approval before posting to the web. Each school should maintain a base team of 3 to 5 members for web development. These members will be Contribute administrators of the web site. They will have individual logins to the web server for this purpose. Others at the school will be able to log onto the server using Contribute to create classroom pages and edit or update information. They will be assigned writer or publisher roles within Contribute, as determined by their school principal.
Schools with modern servers (OS X or Windows 2003 Servers) will maintain the website on their school server housed in their school building. Schools with older server technology will maintain the site on a web server housed at the Sarah Simpson Professional Development Technology Center until the district or school can purchase an upgraded server.
Schools are requested to use KCS templates for the main pages within the site. Templates are based on the KCS Official web site so that parents and other community users will have the same “look and feel” to all KCS school sites. The same navigation and page structure will be used for all main pages. The header of the template provides a horizontal navigation bar to pages within the school site. The footer on the templates provides links back to the KCS district web site.
Individual classroom or department Contribute users are to use the templates found within Contibute Starter Web Pages to create new pages. Page designers can choose from the list. Templates found in the Community/Education folder have a blue navigation bar similar to the Knox County School templates.
