netTrekker Searching: Exploring Tennessee
Nettrekker is a subscription based online browser provided by Knox County Schools to all classroom teachers and students through funding from Instructional Technology.
To Begin your exploration of Tennessee,
Open Safari from your Dock.
Safari is an Internet browser used to find sites on the web.

- Notice the tabs at the top of the page. Click on the Elementary Tab.
- Notice that the main color on the page is now orange.

Find the yellow box on the right hand side of your page. It is labeled “My Tools.”
- Click on Saved Searches
- Click on “Shared Search Folders”

- Click on the “Tennessee” folder

Click on 1. Tennessee Maps. 
- Click on “Tennessee State Map”
 
- A new page will open on a new web site. This page has a small picture of the state of Tennessee. When you click on the picture, another new page will open displaying a printable version of the map.

Print a copy of the picture.
- To print, click File in the menus. Drag down to Print.

- In the print window, change the name of the printer to make sure you are printing in room 216. (or your local printer)

- Pick up the copy from the printer in your room.
- Put your name on the paper.
- On the computer, close the window that shows the map of Tennessee by clicking on the red button in the upper left of your browser window.

- The window that is left open will be the netTrekker search window that was previously opened.
- Use the other links in this search to find out information about Tennessee. Take a few minutes to look at the sites and read the information.
- You can have the netTreker browser read the information aloud to you. Find the “Open Read Aloud” button on the netTrekker window and click on it.

- Highlight any text you want read aloud by clicking and dragging across it or triple clicking it. Give the program a few seconds and it will begin to read to you.
- Use the other searches found in the saved search folder “Tennessee” to find out about Tennessee facts, famous people and to see images of historic Appalachia.
- After reviewing the websites found, register for your own netTrekker account. You must be on a Knox County School computer to register for netTrekker.
