ACTIVITY FOUR: Online Social Networking for beginners!

 

Many kids no longer even use instant messaging due to their online communications within My Space and Facebook. Millions of teens talk to each other everyday by leaving postings on one of these networking sites. Most of the time, kids are talking to their friends, once in a while, they aren't.

Beyond the flat world of social networking is the world of avitars. In Second Life, you create a character and walk around meeting other "characters."

Pellissippi State Technology Community College has an"island" that students can visit to meet their classmates and teachers.

Check out Second Life. Download the software and create a character of your own. What do you think is the draw for this type of communication? How do you think it effects people in the real world?
