You may have noticed that you received an email reply from one of the students in the class. I have changed the preferences to the list to prevent this from occurring again. Please ignore that email and read the two from me that should have arrived late last evening.

TO ALL TENN TECH 6920 Course Participants:

Please read entire message carefully for instructions! Actions are needed immediately!

You are receiving this message because you have enrolled in either section 629 (Pellissippi Section) or section 630 (Sarah Simpson) of Tennessee Tech's course Technology for Teachers for Fall of 2007. This course will earn on hour of free undergraduate credit and 15 recertification points. You may not use this course for unsecheduled inservice hours due to state restrictions using courses for college credit for inservice. If you have questions about inservice, you may contact the Professional Development Center of Knox County Schools or you may discuss it with your principal. Unscheduled inservice hours are ultimately at the discretion of the principal.

Withdrawal from the Course:
If you do not wish to participate in this course, you must contact Tennessee Tech for withdrawal. If you find you are spending too much time to make the course worthwhile, please discuss this with your facilitator. It is not our goal to overwhelm you. We want to encourage technology use rather than make it a chore. Please feel free to discuss any issues or problems you are having at any time. You can contact me, Micki Daniel at danielm@k12tn.net or Steve Reagan at reagans1@k12tn.net.

Participation Requirements:
Participants are expected to complete the equivalent of at least 3 class meetings.

Participants are required to complete 5 hours of out of class work. You will find a form attached that you will need to print and complete by November 1, 2007. Please do not complete this section of the course until we have more posted online for your benefit! You have plenty of time. We know that some of you will want to do this and get it out of the way, but we would like you to wait until at least after the second class. We will have a final assignment that should take most of that time so if you complete the hours early you may find yourself spending too much time on the course.

First Class Dates:
Thursday, September 13, 2007 - Sarah Simpson Building
Tuesday, September 18, 2007- Pellissippi Hardin Valley Campus

Both sessions of the class will be using the same curriculum and course work. If you find you cannot attend one of the session, check the schedule and see if you can attend the same class another night or use the Online Participation Option.

Online Participation Option:
Class sizes are quite large this year. In an effort to make it a better course for you and to help students who need extra help, we are offering an online solution for participants. We will be posting the curriculum online along with class assignments. If you have no problem downloading and printing the attachments with this email and you are comfortable searching the web from links found either online or in a document, you are capable of participating in the course online. If you are unsure of what the previous statement meant or if you are just unsure of your skills, you would benefit from coming to class.

The reality is that most of us have a wide range of technology skills. Those will better skills may become frustrated in class if we have to slow down for others. And those of you who are beginners will feel frustrated if we move too fast or you may feel intimidated about asking questions. We really want everyone to have a successful experience. We encourage you to make your choice on your class option with the knowledge that if you change your mind, that if fine with us! If you choose the online option and it doesn't work out for you, you can come to the next class and we be happy to work with you on problems you have. If you come to class and decide you want to participate online, simply send us an email before the next session.

The online solution will make class sizes smaller and allow for more individualized instruction. You will be given short online assignments that will take less than 2 hours to complete. For example: Class 1- log into Eagle Online and your email account for Tennessee Tech. Send your facilitator an email from your Eagle Online account. Choose one online collection of lesson plans from a list. Explore the entire collection and write a short summary of the site. Email the summary to your instructor. Added course work to count towards your 5 hours of additional work: Choose a second collection from the list. Compare and contract the two collections pointing out the best features of each in a short summary. Please do not start this until you visit the pages online. Links will be given by Thursday at 2:00 PM.
